‎The Electoral Commission of Uganda has rescheduled polling for Sub County, Town Council and Municipal Division Local Government Council elections in areas where voting was not conducted or concluded earlier this month.

‎In a press release dated February 20, 2026, the Commission announced that the affected elections will now take place on Thursday, March 12, 2026. The exercise had initially been slated for February 26, 2026, following disruptions on February 4, 2026.

‎According to the Commission, the decision to push forward the polling date was taken to allow more time for administrative and logistical preparations. The extension will also cater for electoral areas where fresh nominations were conducted following the death of some candidates.

‎The repeat elections will cover unfilled positions at the Sub County, Town Council and Municipal Division levels. These include chairpersons, directly elected councillors, women councillors, and councillors representing special interest groups such as youths, older persons and persons with disabilities.

‎Polling will be conducted at all designated polling stations within the affected electoral areas across the country, and where applicable, at respective electoral college venues. Voting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m.

‎The Commission noted that vote counting will take place immediately after the close of polling at the respective stations, followed by the declaration of results in line with the electoral laws.

‎Justice Simon Byabakama, the Chairperson of the Commission, urged stakeholders and voters to participate peacefully and adhere to the established electoral guidelines to ensure a smooth conclusion of the process.
